Overview
The First-Generation College Celebration (FGCC), hosted by EOP, is a series of annual events designed to celebrate and highlight the stories of UC Davis students who are the first in their family to graduate. My role was to create promotional graphics such as flyers, stickers, posters, instagram posts and a book.
Context
The First Generation College Celebration begins every Fall Quarter and concludes during Spring Quarter with a reception and book publication that honors our EOP students.
I served as the primary point of contact for the First Generation College Celebration graphics. I photographed, edited, created, and met with the organizing committee to ensure that the branding and the promotion of the celebration was a success. Below is some of the work I created!
My Role

Phase 1: Identifying the problem, solution, goals and challenges
To kick off this year-long project, I began by reviewing previous FGCC promotional materials. The branding from previous years was consistent, making it an easy decision to retain the existing brand guidelines.
Traditionally, the First-Generation Monologues, a key part of the FGCC celebrations, were promoted by posting event flyers around campus. However, after discussing with the planning committee, we realized the challenge: limited time to promote the event in the usual way. To solve this, I suggested supplementing the physical flyers—posted on campus 10 days before the event—with digital flyers on our Instagram.
Despite these efforts, my team and I felt we could do even more. So, I designed 10 postcards featuring portraits of our performers, which were distributed to friends, family, classmates, and professors. This approach added a personal touch to our promotion and ultimately helped boost attendance at the event.

Phase 2: Capturing the event
After creating and promoting the event, I designed the annual "How We Rose"book. In this book, I included the student monologue, student artwork, student testimonies, and photography that encapsulated the celebration of first-generation college students at UC Davis.

Thank you!
A HUGE thank you to the communications team at EOP for their invaluable emotional and logistical support throughout this project! I’d also like to express my gratitude to Christina Jackson, my mentor and former supervisor at EOP, for trusting me with the creation of the visuals for this wonderful event!
